Newcastle have agreed a fee with Liverpool to sign Danny Guthrie.
Guthrie, who spent last season on loan at Bolton, has been given permission to travel to Tyneside to hold talks with the Magpies.
The 21-year-old impressed during his loan spell at Bolton and his appearances appear to have caught the attention of Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan.
Guthrie is well down the pecking order at Anfield and Reds boss Rafa Benitez is willing to let him move on so that he can raise funds for his own transfer plans.
Liverpool's head of press Ian Cotton told the club's official website: "We have agreed a transfer fee with Newcastle United for the transfer of Danny Guthrie.
"We have now given Newcastle permission to speak directly with the player."
If Guthrie seals his move to St James' Park he will become Newcastle's second signing of the summer following the capture of Jonas Gutierrez.
