Atletico Madrid have enterted the race to sign unsettled Liverpool midfielder Mohamed Sissoko.
Reports emanating from Spain suggest Atletico have contacted Liverpool to register their interest in the former Valencia man.
Juventus were thought to be leading the chase to sign the powerful midfielder, but they appeared to cool their interest in Sissoko after club president Giovanni Cobolli Gigli revealed they would not be making any signings this month.
The news has opened the door for Atletico to steal in and bring Sissoko back to La Liga.
Atletico's sports director Jesus Garcia Pitarch is a big admirer of Sissoko having played a key role in taking the player to Valencia from Auxerre and he has recommended the Malian to coach Javier Aguirre.
Atletico could be in the market for a new midfielder with Maniche on the verge of joining Internazionale and Sissoko could fit the bill.
The Spanish side enjoy a good relationship with Liverpool following the transfers of Fernando Torres and Luis Garcia last summer and they are hoping to strike a deal with the English titans for Sissoko.
