Derby County's boyhood Everton fan Jay McEveley has begrudgingly admitted that Liverpool are Premier League title contenders.
The 22-year-old came on as a substitute during the 6-0 defeat against Rafael Benitez's men.
Despite being an Everton supporter at heart, McEveley has conceded that Liverpool look much stronger this season.
"If you look at the game against Liverpool, we gave silly goals away but we probably lost to one of the title contenders," McEveley said.
"They were on form and when you catch a team like that on form on their own turf then it's always going to be difficult whether you are an established Premier League side or not.
"I don't like saying it but I think Liverpool can win the title to be honest with you.
"My mates are Liverpool and Everton fans but I'm getting a lot of stick from Liverpool fans because of the result.
"They are saying `we are looking better this season' and I can't deny that."
