Glenn happy with Martins choice

Newcastle boss Glenn Roeder was pleased he chose Obafemi Martins over Dirk Kuyt.

Newcastle United boss Glenn Roeder was pleased he chose Obafemi Martins over Dirk Kuyt, but believes both have proved great signings.

The Magpies paid a hefty fee to land Martins from Internazionale last year and it took some time for the Nigerian ace to adapt to life in England's top-flight.

However, Martins is now scoring regularly and while Roeder also took a close look at Kuyt, prior to his Liverpool switch, he is pleased he went with Martins.

"I like both players. I think I've been proved right to like both players - one we landed and one's at Liverpool," he stated.

"Kuyt's done extremely well, I went over to watch him play and I saw a talented striker with a high work-rate.

"But I'm happy with Oba - the two players are proving to be success in the Premiership."

It is not only Roeder who has been delighted with Martins' blistering form as managers from top sides have also been impressed with his skills.

"Oba's made a big impression on Premiership managers - I know that for a fact," he continued.

"I choose my friends carefully and one or two of them are managers of top sides. They've told me how impressed they've been."
