Luke Young is tipping his Charlton team-mate Scott Carson to push Paul Robinson for England's number one spot.
Carson, still only 21, is currently on a season-long loan from Liverpool and has been in good form this season for The Addicks saving two penalties in their Carling Cup shoot out victory at Chesterfield.
Skipper Young believes his rise to prominence will continue, as the defender said: ǣSince Scott came to Charlton he's been an absolute revelation and made save after save.
Ç£A lot of the clean sheets we've been getting have been largely down to Scott making a number of saves late on in games.Ç¥
Carson was in England's World Cup squad this summer and will be hoping to force his way into Steve McClaren's permanent plans as serious competition for Robinson.
Young, who has also been involved in the England set up, feels the time is now right for Carson to push on: ǣIts early days with Scott at the moment and he's only 21.
Ç£People forget that because he looks a lot older, but give him time to settle into a Premiership club and he will become a top, top goalkeeper.Ç¥
Carson has recently signed a new contract at Liverpool and may find himself back at Anfield in January, if boss Rafa Benitez decides to activate a clause in his loan contract.
Charlton boss Iain Dowie has also heaped praise on the young keeper: ǣHe's a top class keeper and that's why I brought him to the club.
Ç£Thankfully we've got him for the season, although there is a clause in the loan that Liverpool can recall him in January.Ç¥
With David James being discarded by McClaren, Carson along with Ben Foster are hot on the heels of the Tottenham shot stopper and both will be hoping their good form continues.
