Simao Sabrosa has thanked Benfica for opening the way for him to leave the club this summer after Valencia joined the race to sign him.
The former Barcelona forward is keen to play abroad again and is pleased to have been told by Benfica president Luis Felipe Vieira that, if the right offer is made, then he will be allowed to talk to another team.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is also keen on signing Simao, who is currently on duty with the Portugal squad in the World Cup finals.
"It is a good sign that the president will open the door for me if a serious offer comes in," the player explained.
"Of course, as I have said before and the president has also stated, the offer must be right for all sides. If that happens then I will be happy."
Simao joined Barcelona in 1999 from Sporting Lisbon, but stayed at Camp Nou only two seasons before returning to Portugal to sign for Benfica.
Despite not securing a regular place in the Barca team, the 26-year-old could be tempted to move back to the Spanish league again.
"Going to Barcelona was a good experience," Simao continued. "I would like to play in a different league once again.
"Whether that will be by returning to Spain or going to England, I do not know."
Valencia are not set to formalise their tentative enquiry until their new sporting director Amedeo Carboni returns from Italy where he is trying to find clubs to buy Marco Di Vaio, Bernardo Corradi and Stefano Fiore.
