James Beattie says Milan Baros would be welcomed at Everton if he crossed Liverpool to join the Goodison Park outfit.

The former Southampton striker realises there would be more competition for a starting spot in attack but he holds the Liverpool forward in high regard.

"He's a top striker, a Czech international who did very well in the European Championship," Beattie told Sky Sports News.

"The only problem I would see is probably because he's coming over Stanley Park but it wouldn't be a problem to us.

"He'd be welcomed if the manager signed him.

"I don't know [about the problems switching Merseyside clubs] as I'm getting used to it myself. We'll see what happens."

Beattie is determined to erase the memory of a disappointing personal campaign in 2004/2005 by proving his worth next term.

"Obviously the move for me was a great move but last season didn't go to plan," he continued.

"But I'm looking forward to this season. Everyone's wishing me the best of luck and I'm looking forward to repaying the loyalty they showed me last year.

"You can only look forward and that's what everybody is doing.

"To say we're going to try and improve on last year would be a massive ask but you can only look to improve on anything you do in life.

"Hopefully, we can do it; if we do, we'll be buzzing."
