Lens keen on Diao

According to reports from the French press, Salif Diao could be heading for Lens.

According to reports emanating from the French press, Salif Diao could be heading for Lens.

The Liverpool midfielder has failed to establish himself at Anfield and spent a short time at Birmingham last season - before injury curtailed a loan move.

Birmingham boss Steve Bruce conceded at the close of last season that he was unlikely to pursue a permanent deal and it would appear Diao has little chance of making an impression under Rafa Benitez.

Lens currently have another Liverpool player, Alou Diarra, on-loan and should they concur with his parent club then a permanent arrangement may be made.

However, if they fail to land Diarra then they may turn their attention to Diao - with a fee of around £1.5 million having previously been mooted.
