Adam Johnson is in talks over an extended contract at Middlesbrough, amid rumours of interest from Liverpool.

The 17-year-old winger is another product of Boro's famed academy, which is emerging as one of the most productive in England.

Johnson made his senior debut earlier this year in the Uefa Cup as he came on as substitute against Sporting Lisbon, but is only on the fringes of the first team squad with both Stewart Downing and Boudewijn Zenden standing in his way.

Boro are keen to tie Johnson down, with rival clubs - including Liverpool - said to be keeping a close eye on his situation.

Johnson is yet to pledge his future to the Teesside outfit, but his agent Ian Elliott insists he is happy with the club.

"We haven't heard anything from Liverpool," Elliott told skysports.com.

"He is happy with life at Middlesbrough and talks are ongoing over a deal for Adam."
