Liverpool midfielder Anthony Le Tallec has been ruled out for a minimum of 45 days with a serious ankle injury.
The talented young Frenchman, currently on a season-long loan with St Etienne in his homeland, injured himself in training.
Le Tallec went down under a challenge in a training session and has suffered a badly sprained ankle as a consequence.
It is expected that he will be forced to wear a plaster cast for the next three weeks before beginning a rehabilitation period.
The starlet playmaker had made a promising start to the new season, scoring once to aid St Etienne's campaign.
