Charlton Athletic have completed the £2.5 million capture of Danny Murphy.Charlton Athletic have completed the £2.5 million capture of midfielder Danny Murphy from Liverpool.
The 27-year-old had been close to joining Tottenham earlier in the week, however the move stalled after the star failed to receive first-team assurances from new manager Jacques Santini.
With Spurs pulling out of the race for the former Crewe star, who has been capped nine times by his country, The Addicks were free to make a move.
Charlton boss Alan Curbishley was clearly able to guarantee Murphy a regular place and has tied him to a four-year deal at The Valley.
"Danny is a player we have been tracking for some time, but he only became available last week," said Curbishley to the club's official website.
"We moved in straight away and, although he was publicly linked with other clubs, we were always confident we would sign Danny.
"The fact he has chosen to come here over a number of other Premiership clubs is an endorsement of what we are trying to achieve at Charlton.
"I also believe the fact that Charlton have signed an England international from one of this country's biggest clubs shows our tactics in the transfer market are paying off.
"We have remained patient and stayed focused on bringing in the type and quality of player we have always felt we needed."
