Premiership new boys West Brom are keen on signing Liverpool's French defender Djimi Traore.

The tall defender could be on his way out at Anfield in the wake of Gerard Houllier's departure earlier this week.

Traore has failed to hold down a regular place in the Liverpool side since arriving in 1999 from Laval and he could be interested in a move away in search of regular first-team action.

Baggies boss Gary Megson is keen to reinforce his squad for the life back in The Premiership and sees Traore's versatility as a vital commodity needed for his team.

The player's agent Monte-Carlo based Willie McKay revealed that Traore would be interested in a switch to The Hawthorns.

"He has three years left on his contract at Liverpool, but he wants to come to Albion," said McKay.

West Brom could face competition for Traore as Blackburn have held a long-term interest in the 24-year-old.
