Le Tallec had looked good in the opening exchanges against Birmingham's second string, but his participation was cut short by a late tackle on 15 minutes.
The Frenchman left the field on a stretcher and was seen boarding Liverpool's team bus on crutches with his ankle heavily strapped.
Liverpool are expected to send the youngster for scans and an X-ray on Tuesday, but the injury is clearly causing concern for Reds officials.
More positive news was the return to action of Le Tallec's fellow countryman Florent Sinama-Pongolle and Norwegian ace John Arne Riise.
Sinama-Pongolle and Riise returned following ankle and groin complaints respectively and came through the 1-0 win with flying colours.
Riise's agent believes his client is now over his injury troubles.
"John Arne is really positive and think that he is over the worst now," Riise's agent Einar Baardsen told NTB.
"John Arne feels that he is in great physical shape and I think that he can play the game in the Uefa Cup on Thursday, or the league game this weekend."
