Anthony Le Tallec says he felt elated as Liverpool fans gave him a standing ovation as he left the field with his first Reds goal in Wednesday's win over Olimpija Ljubljana.
The promising French youngster grabbed the first of a 3-0 win to help Liverpool into the second round of the Uefa Cup and was given a rapturous applause by The Kop as he left the field after an hour to be replaced by Florent Sinama-Pongolle.
Le Tallec revealed: "Of course I felt great emotion and it gave me the shivers.
"It was a fantastic moment as Florent replaced me and he managed to get his first taste of action of the season.
"I didn't expect to adapt so quickly, even though I have been preparing well over pre-season.
"At the beginning, Gerard Houllier told me he will take a final decision about Florent and me at the end of July, but then he said he was going to keep us in the squad and that we wouldn't be going back to Le Harve.
"I am very satisfied with my start to the season. I didn't expect to play so often as I am not an out-and-out striker.
"I am a bit like what Youri Djorkaeff was to the French team."
