The French midfielder was released at the end of the season by Gerard Houllier after making just a handful of appearances in three years on Merseyside.
Diomede spent the second half of last term on loan at Ajaccio and was delighted to enjoy regular first-team football.
Ajaccio are believed to want to extend his stay in Corsica for a further year although Diomede is unperturbed by the prospect of being involved in the mad summer scramble for a new team.
The French World Cup winner is merely content to control his own fate but fears, at 29, the chance of a move to a big club will have passed him by.
"I am living very well because this is what I want," said the former Auxerre ace.
"When I was at Auxerre, then to Liverpool, I was never the master of my destiny. Now, I can discuss directly with the clubs that interest me.
"I refuse to be depressed under the pretext that I am without a club for the moment.
"I know that, with a good physical preparation, I can know beautiful seasons again, with a priority for France. I do not exclude remaining with Ajaccio.
"Nevertheless, the transfer market is motionless. The market is more difficult than before.
"What's more in France, as soon as one approaches 30 years, the big clubs take fear."
