LIVERPOOL'S French starlet Alou Diarra could remain in his homeland next season following his loan spell with Le Havre.

Diarra spent the campaign with Le Havre as Reds boss Gerard Houllier wanted the midfielder to accrue valuable first-team experience, with the 21-year-old making 25 appearances.

But Le Havre have been relegated from Le Championnat, meaning Diarra is unlikely to return to the club next term with the former Bayern Munich youngster not deemed ready for action at Anfield.

Instead, Sochaux could step in and offer Diarra a base for next season as they will require a replacement for Benoit Pedretti, if the French international leaves in the summer.

With Diarra highly unlikely to force his way into Houllier's plans in The Premiership, another year on loan building up experience could be the most beneficial solution for all parties.

Meanwhile, Liverpool will play a summer friendly in South Africa and will be joined in the country by Tottenham Hotspur.

Liverpool will tackle Kaizer Chiefs at Ellis Park on July 26 while Spurs will encounter Orlando Pirates in Cape Town on July 27.

The friendlies have been organised as part of South Africa's bid to stage the 2010 World Cup finals.
