GREGORY VIGNAL is determined to make an impact at Liverpool next season and has set himself a target of 25 first team games.

The French left back featured in the early part of last season but then suffered a broken foot and subsequent injuries forced him to watch on from the sidelines.

Despite the arrival of left-sided midfielder Bruno Cheyrou and Damien Duff consistently linked with The Reds, Vignal is determined to get a spot in the starting XI.

"I am 21 now and so I need to be playing regular first team football," Vignal told the club website.

"I want to play in 25 games this season - and then more if possible. I don't really want to be playing five or ten games for the first team and another 20 in the reserves.

"I missed a lot of last season and so I am desperate just to play regularly again and show what I can do."

With John Arne Riise and Jamie Carragher both capable of playing at left back, Vignal faces a real battle to convince Gerard Houllier that he should be first choice at Anfield and will have to take his chance with both hands if, or when it comes along.
