Striker Pongolle, who is rumoured to be quicker than compatriot Thierry Henry, and Anthony Le Tallec played for the French side against a strong Liverpool line-up and was overwhelmed by the reception he received from the Reds supporters when taking a corner-kick.
"The ovation from the Liverpool supporters really touched me." Pongolle told Football 365.
Liverpool coach Gerard Houllier welcomes the duo next season and revealed in the French press that starlets Pongolle and Le Tellec really impressed his current charges.
A host of European clubs were after the 17-year-old but Houllier uses his Gallic connections to snap up the teenager who mentioned some of the other suitors.
"There were Manchester United, Arsenal, Fulham, Real Madrid and Valencia," revealed the striking ace.
"But you should not just think of money and keep your feet firmly on the ground."
The arrival of Pongolle and Le Tallec will swell the French contingent at Anfield further with Bruno Cheyrou, Gregory Vignal, Djimi Traore and Alou Diarra on the books of the Merseysiders.
