LIVERPOOL defender Djimi Traore is in line to make his Premiership debut against Bradford City at Anfield this weekend after Dominic Matteo completed his move to Leeds United.

Matteo‚ÇÖs departure to Elland Road will be compensated by the completion of German international defender Christian Ziege‚ÇÖs protracted move from Middlesbrough to Liverpool this Friday.

Even if Ziege completes his move to Anfield in time to make his debut against Bradford, his lack of match fitness will probably mean that Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier will pick Traore for the vacant left-back position.

The 20-year-old Frenchman, who captained the club‚ÇÖs reserve side last season, has figured regularly in Liverpool‚ÇÖs pre-season friendlies and his performances have impressed Houllier.

Meanwhile Houllier is also hopeful that Czech midfielder Patrik Berger will be fit for Saturday‚ÇÖs season opener after missing the clubs‚ÇÖ last pre-season game against Parma with a thigh strain.

Houllier said: "He has finished his treatment now and joined in running today."
