David Luiz admits the Chelsea players deserved the criticism thrown at them during their poor run of results that ended with a 3-0 mauling of struggling Bolton on Saturday.

The 24-year-old has had his share of criticism in the poor run of five games without a win that has seen the West London side drop out of the top four and all but end their title challenge.

Questions were already being asked of some of the players and under-fire manger Andre Villas-Boas following their 3-1 midweek defeat to Napoli in the Champions League.

But the former Benfica defender, signed for £21million last year, led the fight back against the boo-boys by opening the scoring and was instrumental in his side keeping a clean sheet.

He said: "I play in a big team and when a big team doesn't win for five games or six games, the pressure is so, so big.

"I believe in my job, I believe in my work every day, I believe in me. I know my football, I know my personality."
