Villas-Boas rues 'strange' decisions

Despite being shorn of several of their big name players Chelsea looked on course to record a notable victory when a brilliant Juan Mata volley sandwiched own goals from Jonny Evans and Rio Ferdinand to put them in the most commanding of positions at Stamford Bridge.

United battled back manfully as Wayne Rooney kept his nerve from the penalty spot twice to reduce the deficit to a solitary goal, after Webb adjudged first Patrice Evra and then Danny Welbeck had been fouled in the area.

More drama was to follow when in the 84th minute substitute Javier Hernandez converted Ryan Giggs' cross to claim the most unlikely of points for his side.

Sir Alex Ferguson claimed post-match that Webb missed two penalties that should have been awarded to his side in the first half, but Villas-Boas had a decidedly different perspective.

"Of course, it's not easy to take," he told Sky Sports 1. "A game where we were very positive and had the initiative for most of it.

"It's a massive recovery for United. It'll feel like a win for them, of course. We had it in our hands and let it slip.

"There were some strange decisions today though. At Old Trafford we lost two goals that were offside and I see Sir Alex speaking about the linesman just after they recall him.

"These things just keep happening. The first one is a penalty and I agree with it. The second is very, very unlucky.

"I'm not sure if Howard is trying to compensate for something."
