Chelsea defender Alex is in contention to make his comeback from injury against Man City at the weekend.

Benayoun expected back in training later in the week

Chelsea defender Alex is in contention to make his comeback from injury against title rivals Manchester City at the weekend. Alex has been out of action since the end of November due to a knee injury, but has returned to training with the first-team squad. The Brazil international will not be considered for Wednesday's UEFA Champions League tie against FC Copenhagen, but will come into Carlo Ancelotti's thoughts for Sunday's showdown with City at Stamford Bridge. Ancelotti said: "Alex will not be involved tomorrow but he will be involved in Sunday's game." Yossi Benayoun is also due to return to training later this week, with the Israel midfielder having been sidelined since September with an Achilles injury. "Benayoun will come back to train maybe Thursday or Friday with the team, so every player is fit and in good condition," added Ancelotti.

Rotate

Chelsea lead Copenhagen 2-0 from the first leg and Ancelotti plans to freshen up his team for the return at home on Wednesday evening. The Blues boss continued: "I want to rotate in this game, I didn't choose the team for tomorrow but I want to use rotation because we have all the players fit and I want to use all the players to prepare for these two games with Copenhagen and Manchester City. "My best team is not just 11 players. I am happy in this moment because all the players are fit. "This is a fantastic moment for us to have all the players fit and we want to maintain motivation for everyone, to have all the players fit in the next games of the Premier League and Champions League."
