Salomon Kalou believes a Champions League win over Copenhagen can help Chelsea kick-start a title run.

Striker targets Wembley final and Premier League glory

Salomon Kalou believes a UEFA Champions League win over Copenhagen on Wednesday can help Chelsea kick-start a late title run. The Blues hold a 2-0 lead as they head into the return tie at Stamford Bridge looking to seal a quarter-final place amongst Europe's elite. Carlo Ancelotti's men sit fourth in the Premier League, nine points off leaders Manchester United with a game in hand, yet despite a busy run of fixtures, Kalou insists success in Europe can benefit his side's title aspirations. The Ivory Coast international believes that a win on Wednesday would help add to the momentum Chelsea have been building as they look to hunt down bitter rivals United. "Copenhagen can be the turning point, because going away and winning 2-0 is a great result," Kalou told uefa.com. "Now we have the second leg at home and we will try to make it good by winning again, then we can prepare for the next round peacefully. "However, a football match is never done, you play 90 minutes, so we have to be focused on that. "If they reach this stage of the competition it means they're a good team, so we have to have respect for them and play our usual game."

Incentive

With the Champions League final set to be played at Wembley this season, the prospect of a short trip for the club and its fans is an added incentive for Kalou. The 25-year-old believes that Chelsea's experience playing at Wembley should stand them in good stead if they find themselves in action come May. "We have played so many times at Wembley, it would be like a home game," Kalou added. "Imagine playing a Champions League final at home - that would be the best scenario ever. "We are motivated, we know it is a long journey to get there, but we will take it game by game. "It is very important to be focused, that is the only way we can get to the final."
