Chelsea manager Avram Grant wants to sign Nicolas Anelka in time for Saturday's game against Tottenham.
Bolton have so far resisted Chelsea's overtures for the French striker, having thought to have already rejected a £12million bid.
But Grant is keen to land his man quickly as he is faces a striker shortage in this crucial stage of the season.
He wants fast business as Andrei Shevchenko is currently out with an ankle injury, while Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou are on African Cup of Nations duty with the Ivory Coast.
The Chelsea manager said: "We have confirmed our interest in Anelka.
"I hope that we will now get him for Saturday. We are missing three strikers so it's important to do it quickly."
