Chelsea midfielder Claude Makelele has signed a one-year extension at Stamford Bridge.
The move will keep the 34-year-old at the west London club until 2009.
Makelele's current deal was due to expire at the end of the current
season but the Blues have moved quickly to retain the French international.
Makelele joined Chelsea from Real Madrid in the summer of 2003 and has helped the Blues win back-to-back Premiership titles, two Carling Cup finals and one FA Cup.
He has made 183 appearances for Jose Mourinho's men and scored two goals.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have also confirmed that youngster Sam Hutchinson has penned a new long-term deal.
The 18-year-old, who has already made his first-team debut , has signed a four-year contract.
