Wycombe send Blues youth back

Chelsea defender Adrian Pettigrew's loan spell at Wycombe Wanderers has come to an end, while Tommy Doherty is set to miss the club's play-off push.

Pettigrew joined Wycombe on loan from Chelsea in March and was due to spend the remainder of the season at Adams Park.

But the young defender has made just one appearance for the League Two side and has rejoined Chelsea by mutual consent.

"Adrian was unfortunate here because his arrival coincided with the good form of both Leon (Crooks) and Lewis (Christon)," assistant manager Steve Brown told the club's official website.

"It's in the best interests of all parties concerned that he goes back to Chelsea where he can continue to further his football education."

Meanwhile, midfielder Doherty (pictured), who is on loan from Queens Park Rangers, is unlikely to play again this term due to a knee injury.

Doherty was hurt during Saturday's game with Hartlepool and is unlikely to be available if Wycombe reach the play-offs.

Manager Paul Lambert said: "I think Tommy is finished for the season.

"It's a big loss for us because he's an important player and a massive part of our midfield."
