Hilario believes Chelsea need keeper Petr Cech back as soon as possible.
The Blues number one is currently on the sidelines after suffering a fractured skull against Reading back in October.
The injury to Cech handed Hilario a chance to shine under Jose Mourinho, although the Portuguese shot-stopper would have preferred his opportunity to come under different circumstances.
Carlo Cudicini was restored in goal against Aston Villa in the Carling Cup on Wednesday, although is confident he will get another chance to shine.
"When I came here I was told that I would be third-choice goalkeeper, which is fine," explained Hilario.
"I have played for a lot of clubs and everywhere I have been I have never insisted in my contract that I have to play.
"Maybe some people have thought in the past that I wouldn't get my chance to play.
"But at every club I have been at, I have ended up playing at some stage. So I always believe I will get my opportunity because it is always a very long season.
"It's just that in this situation, it was not the perfect way to get the chance to play because Petr was badly hurt.
"He is my friend and he is one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He is a reference point for me in the way he works, the way he trains, the way he plays.
"I wish him a speedy recovery. We need him back as soon as possible."
