Eidur set for Barca talks

Chelsea have given Eidur Gudjohnsen permission to open talks with Barcelona.

Chelsea have given Eidur Gudjohnsen permission to open talks with Barcelona over a move to Camp Nou.

The UEFA Champions League winners have been tracking the Icelandic ace for some time and they see him as an ideal replacement for Henrik Larsson.

Blues boss Jose Mourinho revealed last month that he would reluctantly listen to offers for Gudjohnsen after bringing in Andrei Shevchenko and Salomon Kalou this summer.

Barcelona are believed to have agreed a fee in the region of £8 million with Chelsea for Gudjohnsen.

The former Bolton man will now travel to Spain to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.

A statement from Chelsea read: "Chelsea have given permission for Eidur Gudjohnsen to travel to Spain for talks with Barcelona. An agreement between all parties is still pending."

It is expected that Gudjohnsen will tie up his move to Barcelona in the next 24 hours much to the disappointment of a host of clubs who were hoping to keep him in England.
