Jose Mourinho is confident he can mould new Chelsea signing John Obi Mikel into a complete player.

Mikel has finally sealed a protracted move to the Premiership champions after a long-running saga was brought to an end over the weekend.

Chelsea agreed to pay Manchester United £12 million for the Nigerian and the midfielder's former club Lyn £4 million to resolve the issue.

The promising youngster will now push for a place in Chelsea's star-studded midfield, with Mourinho expecting big things of Mikel.

"He's a midfield player, we can teach him to be more complete, to defend better and to get more intensity in the game," the Blues boss told Chelsea TV.

"He's bright in the way he thinks football, technically he's fantastic and it's just a point to get the intensity of the English game.

"We know the level he can be. (Lassana) Diarra, John Obi, (Salomon) Kalou, we are speaking about the best young players in the world.

"We are having great, great boys for the future."

Mikel, meanwhile, has confirmed his intention to make an immediate impact at Stamford Bridge following the furore which clouded his move to Chelsea.

"Everybody's got his style of play," said Mikel. "I'm a midfield player who just wants to go in there and do my stuff.

"I'm not a defensive player, I like making the team play, get into the game, keep moving around, keep looking for the ball and make sure the team plays well.

"My next target is to start playing again. I've not been playing for a long time, but I've been doing my thing to keep fit.

"It's been a really, really difficult time for me, but I'm really happy the way everything is going now."
