Frank Lampard is no stranger to personal awards and accolades - and he's been handed two more massive tributes after another hard-wrorking month.

Not only has the Chelsea midfielder been named the Fans' Player of the Month for October, he's also been told by manager Jose Mourinho 'you're the best player in the world'.

After his superb performance against Blackburn, when the England man took his tally of league goals to 100 with two against Rovers, Mourinho was positively glowing in his praise of last season's Fans' Player of the Year.

"I don't see how he can improve because for me he is the best player in the world at the moment," declared Mourinho. "I don't know what the people who organise these world awards do at the weekends because only English people recognise what this player is.

"He was the best player in the Premiership last season and you have some great players in the world but they play one game a month. This player is top in every game.

"I would not change him for another player because he does everything. His defence is incredible, he can pass over a long distance, he can pass over short distances, he's professional, he can score goals over long distance, how can he improve?

"I just hope he carries on because he deserves to break the record for consecutive appearances in the Premier League. David James has the record and he is a keeper. That is completely different because a keeper has more chances to play."

Fans' Player of the Month in the Championship is Luton full back Carlos Edwards who, according to Town legend and assistant manager Brian Stein, will get even better when he starts playing on the right wing.

The 27-year-old - a summer signing from Wrexham - has mainly been filling in at right back during his 11 Championship appearances for the Hatters this term. But Stein, assistant to Luton boss Mike Newell, does not believe it will be long before Edwards is operating in his favourite role.

"The higher up the pitch Carlos plays, the more he can hurt teams," said Stein. "But he has done fantastically at right-back, too. We knew he would do a job when we put him there."

Southend are riding high in League One and whilst goalscorer supreme Freddy Eastwood tends to bag most of the headlines, as well as the goals, Luke Gutteridge is clearly hitting all the right notes as far as the fans are concerned because the ever-present midfielder has been voted player of the month as a result of some eye-catching performances.

October wasn't a great month for Oxford, as Brian Talbot's men managed just one win - along with a series of draws - but youngster Craig Davies has obviously been doing something right as he followed his call-up to the Wales Under 21 squad by being named the best player in the division by givemefootball readers.
