The Ivory Coast international proved his pedigree and potential last term with a series of exciting displays which brought purported interest from England.
Despite the possibility of earning a lucrative move to The Premiership, Zokora was happy to prolong his stay at Stade Geoffrey-Guichard.
''I signed my new contract on June 7,'' Zokora told But!
''With my officials we needed a lot of time to find an agreement.
''The club kept their word and made a financial effort.
''Everyone knows I could earn more money by signing for Monaco or Chelsea, but the club convinced me of their ambition.
''For the officials, I was under contract until 2008 and it was out of the question I could leave.
''They wanted me to stay at any price and as I feel at ease here. I didn't want to cause any trouble.''
