Ajax stand firm over Maxwell

Ajax coach Ronald Koeman says that Maxwell will not be sold in January.

Ajax coach Ronald Koeman has reiterated his stance that Maxwell will not be sold in January.

The Brazilian has emerged as one of the brightest attacking full backs in Europe, with his displays for Ajax catching the eye of the cream of the crop.

Juventus have long been keen on the defender and they have been joined in the race by Italian rivals Internazionale, Roma and most notably moneybags Chelsea.

Ajax could find it tough to resist a major offer from Stamford Bridge, as it has been their policy to budget for the sale of one major star per year, but Koeman is not keen on unsettling the balance of his squad in the middle of the season.

"At this time, it is practically impossible to think about selling Maxwell," Koeman told the Dutch media. "We will look at the situation again at the end of the season."
