Carlo Cudicini has declared that he will fight for his place at Chelsea and that he has no intention of leaving despite being ousted as the club's number one.

The capable Italian has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in The Premiership over the past few seasons but new boss Jose Mourinho has shown a preference for Peter Cech this term.

Due to the excellent form of the giant Czech, Cudicini made only his third appearance this season on Wednesday but the reaction of those inside Stamford Bridge has spurred on the Italian.

''I am still fighting for the jersey and when the manager needs me I am here,'' said Cudicini.

''I am really happy to be part of a great club and I know sooner or later Chelsea will be the best club in Europe, if not the world.

''Even if I am not playing I am happy to stay here. I am contracted till 2008 and I could see that out.

''When you don't play matches it is frustrating, but when the supporters are behind you like that it is unbelievable.

''When I get the chance to play I try to show what I can do.''
