Adrian Mutu has flown back into England and the Romanian has been in dialogue with PFA chief executive Gordon Taylor about his situation.Mutu is embroiled in a storm of controversy after he was named by the press on Monday as the Premiership player reported to have failed a random drugs test.
PFA supremo Taylor is up to speed with the developments and has contacted the player in a bid to clarify the situation.
With the Chelsea striker jetting in to London, it would appear as if he is set for more talks with Taylor.
Taylor was at pains to stress that he would not compromise the player's situation by divulging information about their talks.
"We have been aware of the situation for a short time as we work with The Football Association on the drug testing procedures," Taylor told Sky Sports News.
"But it is also a breach of confidentiality again before there has been an opportunity to have an official hearing.
"But we are in contact with the player and that (meeting) will take place soon.
"At the moment it has all got to be confidential as I do not want people to jump to conclusions. There needs to be a proper hearing, a second test and then the player's response.
"It would be wrong for me to comment. It is up to the agent what he thinks, but from our point of view we are keen to have confidentiality before there has been a hearing and before we have had chance to have a proper discussion with the player."
Speaking in general terms, Taylor added: "Things have not been going well for him on a number of factors, so it is fair to say it is not the peak of his career at the moment.
"So from that point of view it is the same situation as any player and is a cause of some concern."
