Cech content with debut

Petr Cech was satisfied to keep a clean sheet on his Chelsea debut.

Czech Republic international Petr Cech was satisfied to keep a clean sheet on his competitive Chelsea debut.

Cech was given the nod by Jose Mourinho to start Sunday's Premiership meeting with Manchester United and he repaid his manager by shutting out the opposition.

The summer signing had relatively little to do between the posts and is hoping to retain his spot ahead of Carlo Cudicini.

The former Rennes shot-stopper was pleased, not only to avoid conceding, but also to commence his Chelsea career with three points following the 1-0 success at Stamford Bridge.

"It was a very important match for both teams because both teams want to win The Premiership" Cech told the Czech media.

"It was difficult but that is what everyone expected because of how Chelsea start.

"Everyone says that here, there are only stars but we fought like a team.

"Everyone was pleased with the win although our play wasn't without mistakes.

"The coach wasn't pleased with losing the ball so much but the hard start is gone and we can only play better."
