According to reports in Italy, Chelsea striker Adrian Mutu could still make a return to Serie A - with Fiorentina and Juventus both linked with a move.

The Romanian international failed to live up to his £15.8 million price tag, but did show glimpses of his undoubted talent in his first season at Stamford Bridge.

There had been speculation Mutu could be axed following Jose Mourinho's arrival at The Blues, however the former Porto boss has been happy with the striker's application.

Mutu has been omitted from Chelsea's clash against Milan on Monday in Philadelphia, however it is just precautionary as he is carrying a knock.

The Romanian is likely to start down the pecking order this term with Didier Drogba, Mateja Kezman and Eidur Gudjohnsen all vying for places up front.

Fiorentina have attempted to play down the speculation they need a striker, following the capture of Javier Portillo, although Juve could still make a move.
