Geremi failed to establish himself in the starting line-up under Claudio Ranieri and now with Jose Mourinho taking charge at Stamford Bridge - he looks even less likely to command a first team place.
Boro boss Steve McClaren, who secured the signatures of Mark Viduka, Michael Reiziger and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink this week, is now looking to bolster his midfield department.

Zenden could sign on a permanent basis, but it is likely that he will again move to Boro on a season-long loan - as he did last campaign to great affect.
Boro have utilised loan deals well in recent seasons and it looks like they will again, as any deal for Geremi would also be a loan - meaning half their midfield next season could be borrowed from Chelsea.
Gary Speed, Nicky Butt, Ray Parlour and Owen Hargreaves continue to be options - but Geremi now appears favourite.
Bolton have also been linked with the Cameroonian, but Boro would almost certainly be Geremi's preferred option.
With McClaren looking certain to play two strikers following Viduka and Hasselbaink's arrival - there are again question marks over Juninho's long term future.
The Brazilian star - who looks likely to be only handed a bench role next term, has been linked with Celtic and his agent has confirmed that he would consider a move to Parkhead.
"Celtic would be a club he would consider joining," said agent Jonathan Hassall.
"He would not be out of their price range and his wage demands would not be beyond them."
New signing Viduka has also revealed that he rejected the chance of moving back to his old club Celtic - in preference for a move to Middlesbrough.
"There was some interest from Celtic but I'm not one for going back in life," said Viduka.
"I wanted to stay in the Premiership."
