Terry: Carlos won't oust Bridge

Chelsea defender John Terry says that prospective new Blues signing Roberto Carlos will have a fight on his hands to force Wayne Bridge out of the team.

The Real Madrid star is reportedly being lined up for a switch to Stamford Bridge but Terry says that his England team-mate Bridge will not have to fear for his place.

Terry was full of praise for Bridge and believes that the Brazilian superstar will have trouble displacing him from the starting XI, whoever the manager will be next term.

"We've heard the rumours about Carlos. But if we do sign him, hopefully Bridgey will continue doing what he has been doing this season and make it hard for him to get in the side," said Terry.

"That's the way Bridgey has to approach it and I'm sure he will be in the team at the start of next season.

"Wayne has been our second-best player behind Frank Lampard. He has been fantastic. He is pushing Ashley Cole all the way for the England shirt, the fans have taken to him and he's a great lad.

"I knew he was a good player at Southampton. You realise it more, though, when you play with him week in, week out.

"He has not missed a game, never misses training, is such a fit guy and we have seen what a great player he really is.

"We all get used to loads of players being mentioned but it doesn't make us nervous for our places. It's exciting, as it's going to make us a better team.

"Roman Abramovich wants the best players and to win things."
