Chelsea goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini has thrown down the gauntlet to new arrival Petr Cech by revealing he is ready to fight for his place in the side.

Question marks were raised over Cudicini's long-term future at Stamford Bridge after Chelsea agreed a deal for Cech with Rennes last month.

Cech is due to arrive at Chelsea next summer with reports claiming the Czech international will be the club's first choice next season.

Cudicini is refusing to be downhearted and has vowed to fight for his place in the team along with Neil Sullivan and Marco Ambrosio.

"He is coming here but it doesn't mean he has to play,'' said Cudicini. "It will be a challenge for the jersey but that is normal.

"Everybody was saying Chelsea needed a new goalkeeper but I don't think that is true because in Marco and Sully we have two good goalkeepers.

"Chelsea have a new philosophy so everyone has to fight hard to play.

"The club have to look forward and he has a very good future in front of him because he is young, so we'll see.''
