ADRIAN MUTU marked his debut for Chelsea grabbing a spectacular winner in a hard-fought 2-1 victory over battling Leicester.

The game was somewhat marred the second half dismissals of Leicester duo Alan Rogers and Riccardo Scimeca as well as Chelsea's Geremi.

Chelsea got off to a flying start going in front after just three minutes with the unfortunate Lilian Nalis diverting Juan Sebastian Veron's cross into his own net.

Leicester drew level five minutes before the break with a superb header from James Scowcroft to stun the home fans.

Chelsea restored their lead on the stroke of half time with Mutu unleashing a brilliant left-footed shot from 30 yards after his initial free kick had been blocked.

The home side suffered a blow on 65 minutes when Cameroon star Geremi was sent off by referee Rob Styles after a two-footed lunge at Scimeca.

Scowcroft almost equalised for Leicester before Alan Rogers was dismissed six minutes from time for aiming a kick at Jesper Gronkjaer.

Leicester almost grabbed a point late on with substitute Brian Deane hitting the woodwork before Scimeca was sent off for a second bookable offcence
