Former Shrewsbury manager Ian McNeil, now a chief scout for The Blues, has scoured the divisions for any potential home-grown players to compete for a place with Chelsea's foreign contingent.
McNeil still lives in the Shropshire area and has quickly identified the talents of the 21-year-old striker.
Rodgers starred in Town's heroic win against Everton in the third round of the FA Cup and has earned himself on a short-list of five emerging British players identified by McNeil that Chelsea should be monitoring.
McNeil said: "I've put Luke's name forward to Chelsea and recommended him as a young player to take a look at.
"I couldn't believe it as I saw the fourth round draw as this gives Claudio Ranieri the chance to see the kid at close quarters.
"Front players these days are all about pace and Luke has plenty of that.
"He reminds me of Newcastle's Craig Bellamy, who I worked with at Norwich.
"I really like Luke's speed and the way he takes defenders on.
"He plays on the shoulders of defenders, and if he has quality players to play him in, then he is unstoppable."
Shrewsbury are currently languishing in the bottom half of Division Three and manager Kevin Ratcliffe knows he could loose his best talent if the player puts in another telling performance against Chelsea's all-star line-up.
In other news Chelsea defender John Terry has told the club that he is desperate to sign a new deal, even though he has struggled to restore his place in the starting line-up.
Terry, 22, said: "I'm waiting for the club to get back to me. Hopefully, the contract will keep me at the club for a good few years."
