ROMA are rumoured to be ready to offer Gianni Guigou to Chelsea in a bid to curry favour with Italian coach Claudio Ranieri.

The Serie A giants are huge admirers of Chelsea's outstanding goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini, and would love to bring the classy Blues number one back to his homeland.

The Londoners are understandably reluctant to even contemplate selling Cudicini, but, as with all Italians plying their trade abroad, there is constant talk about a return to his home country.

In any case, Roma are reportedly prepared to allow Uruguayan international midfielder Guigou to join Ranieri's side on loan in January, if the Blues boss wants to snap up the South American.

Such a move would be seen as Roma bidding to manoeuvre themselves into a position at the head of the queue of interested parties in Cudicini, should Chelsea ever consider selling their number one.

The 29-year-old made one league appearance for Roma's fierce rivals Lazio during the 1996/97 campaign.

His father, Fabio, was a legendary figure in goal for Milan in the sixties.
