GRIMSBY TOWN'S out-of-contract right back Danny Butterfield, is one of five trialists to report for pre-season training with Cardiff City.
The 21-year-old has been with The Mariners all his career, but the problematic financial position of the Blundell Park outfit has meant no new contract being sorted out.
Bluebirds boss Lennie Lawrence knows Butterfield well from his time as Grimsby chief and now wants to have a close look at him in pre-season.
Lawrence has also handed trials to a number of other players as he looks to bolster his squad ahead of the new season.
Two Welsh youth internationals in Chelsea youngster Danny Slatter and Chris Collins of Swindon have also arrived for training, with full international Ryan Green - who has been told by Millwall the he can move on.
The fifth trialist is an unnamed French player, who will be confirmed later on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, midfielder Ceri Hughes and Kristian Dimond have also arrived back at Ninian Park, after being handed short-term contracts at the end of last season.
