KEVIN KEEGAN will give a shock call-up to Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard when England take on Argentina at Wembley next month.

The 19-year-old is a product of the legendary Anfield youth system and has made just 31 first team appearances but, Keegan feels that he will be the long-term future for England and already has what it takes to make it at the highest level.

The England coach watched Gerrard in Liverpool`s 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough and was impressed by what he saw.

"I will fetch Steven Gerrard in, I will be fetching in three or four youngsters and he will be one of them." said Keegan, "I have been to watch him a couple of times and I will go and watch him again."

Keegan will also be looking to West Ham`s Joe Cole and Everton`s Francis Jeffers to come in to the squad for the friendly with Argentina next month.

Ipswich`s Richard Wright will also get a call-up and will be given the chance to stake his claim for the third goalkeeping position in the squad after David Seaman and Nigel Martyn already have the other two spots covered.

Coventry`s Steve Froggatt will also be given another chance to fill the left hand-side role, whilst Chelsea`s Jon Harley could also be a shock call-up. The 20-year-old full back has a fantastic left foot and has been very impressive for Gianluca Vialli`s side in recent weeks.
