HARLEY TO BE OFFERED NEW DEAL

IT IS reported that Chelsea could be set to offer young left-back Jon Harley a new, five year contract at Stamford Bridge.

The 20-year-old has put in a series of impressive performances since replacing Graeme Le Saux, who is injured, and Celestine Babyaro, who is representing Nigeria in the African Nations Cup, which has led to calls for him to be included in Kevin Keegan`s Euro 2000 squad.

He only played a number of reserve team games at left-back after being asked by reserve team-manager Mick McGiven to move from his midfield position to cover.

"Jon is a great lad on and off the pitch," said Chelsea assistant manager Graham Rix. "He has tremendous ability and a marvellous temperament and such terrific composure."

Rix also commented on growing speculation that Harley could be a solution to the problem left-side of England`s team, saying: "that is down to England coach Kevin Keegan."
