Ahead of this weekend's Manchester derby, take a look at Radamel Falcao going up against Sergio Aguero

Radamel Falcao insists he is eager to make his mark in the derby after patiently waiting for his chance at Manchester United.

The Colombian striker has not started a game for United for over a month and has scored just four Premier League goals since joining on loan from Monaco last summer.

He did not feature against Manchester City earlier in the season, but is raring to go if given his chance when the teams meet at Old Trafford on Super Sunday.

“It really means a lot to our fans and theirs, so of course I’d be thrilled to play in this match on Sunday. The atmosphere will be phenomenal,” he said.

“In Manchester the derby means a lot. Unfortunately I didn’t play in the derby earlier this season, but you could sense the atmosphere in the city for more than a week before the match itself, it was all people were talking about.”

There has also been plenty of talk about Falcao’s future due to his lack of recent playing time at United.

But he said: “Every football player wants to play, that’s very normal, but I respect the manager and the decisions he makes. I keep working hard in training, learning every day how to play in different systems, in different styles of football.

More from Man Utd V Man City

“Manchester United is a great club, I am very happy to be here and because of this I am happy to be patient.”

United are the form team heading into the derby and will be looking to continue their top-four bid with a sixth successive Premier League win.

However, they have lost their last four meetings with rivals City, a run that Falcao is keen to halt.

“We really want to break this pattern,” he said. “I feel it will be very close, but I think we will win. We’re in good form at the moment, and the fans will give us a big lift at home, so I believe we have a very good chance get the three points.

“The situation in the table is really close still, so a win for us will keep our momentum, which is what we need for the rest of the season.”

Asked about City’s most dangerous player, Falcao said: “They are a very talented team, with a danger all over the pitch, but Sergio Aguero has been a really dangerous player for Manchester United in the past matches.

“He scored many goals, and always needs to be watched carefully. If there is one player more than others to watch out for, I’d say it is Aguero.”
