Manchester United winger Angel di Maria was delighted with his Old Trafford debut after scoring and assisting a goal in the 4-0 win over QPR.

Di Maria, who opened the scoring with a first-half free-kick before teeing up Juan Mata for the fourth, was named man of the match after an impressive first display in front of the home fans.

The £59.7million summer signing from Real Madrid endured a frustrating first appearance in a United shirt, drawing 0-0 away at Burnley, but he was full of joy after the QPR win.

Jamie Redknapp and Patrick Kluivert believe that Angel Di Maria's pace and quality will be an important factor

"I wished very much for the day of my debut at Old Trafford and I did in the best way, scoring a goal," he told Fox Sports Radio Del Plata.

"The happiness is enormous."

Di Maria follows in the footsteps of the likes of George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo in wearing United’s prestigious number seven shirt.

The 26-year-old said: "It is very nice to use this number.

Angel di Maria played a starring role for Manchester United as they beat QPR 4-0.

"Many important players have worn this shirt and I am going to do all that is possible to not let down this shirt."

The convincing win over QPR also saw new boss Louis van Gaal collect his first three points since taking charge of United this summer.

"We have a coach that wants the very best from each player," Di Maria added.

"We put a lot of pressure on in the attack, we handled the ball and we got near to our rivals’ goal many times."
