Louis van Gaal will take his first full training session with the Manchester United players today before facing the media at around 3pm this afternoon.
The Dutchman flew into the country on Wednesday and travelled straight to the club’s Carrington training complex to meet members of the squad not still on a post-World Cup break.
He was pictured with assistant manager Ryan Giggs and chief executive Ed Woodward but will now get down to work as he prepares for the new season.
Van Gaal was named as David Moyes’ replacement in May but has only now taken over, just four days after guiding the Netherlands to a third place finish in the World Cup after they beat hosts Brazil.
The 62-year-old, United's first manager from outside the British Isles, is keen to establish a strong bond among the players as they look to challenge once again for major honours after a disappointing season under Moyes.
Van Gaal will have little time to settle into his new role though, with United jetting off to the USA on Friday for a pre-season tour.
They will play LA Galaxy, Roma, Inter Milan and Real Madrid before returning to the UK, where the Dutchman will manage the side for the first time at Old Trafford when they face Valencia in a further friendly on August 12.
The first real test of how the team has progressed under Van Gaal will then come four days later when United begin their Premier League campaign at home to Swansea.
Rene Meulensteen, a former United coach under Sir Alex Ferguson, insists his fellow Dutchman will relish the challenge.
"I don't think it will faze Louis van Gaal at all in that respect, there are no worries there," he told Sky Sports News. "He will only thrive on it to some extent.
"But you really notice it when you're really getting into the routine, especially when you're going into pre-season and you see the massive popularity of the club and brand, that's what it is.
"To maintain that they have to get back up very, very quickly."
