Michael Carrick admits the pain of Manchester United's present woes is a "horrible" ordeal to endure and has revealed the players are feeling the weight of responsibility.

United make the trip to Tyneside on Saturday to face Newcastle at St James' Park, but Carrick claims focus remains with their return leg against defending European champions Bayern and is not willing to give up hope on the current campaign. "Everything is on Wednesday," he claims. "We're not going over there thinking we've cracked it but we're still in it, we are well in the game. "It's a big challenge, firstly in Munich and there will be big challenges after that. We are not going to sit and say we could win it, but it is possible. "There is a long way to go, the season's not dead."
