The sporting director of the Chilean U20 side has questioned the logic of Angelo Henriquez joining Manchester United at this stage of his career.

Fears raised over the timing of striker's Premier League switch

The sporting director of the Chilean U20 national side has questioned the logic of Angelo Henriquez joining Manchester United at this stage of his career. The 18-year-old has made a move to Old Trafford after just one year as part of the senior set-up at Universidad de Chile. Securing a switch to one of Europe's top clubs is intended to help the promising striker develop his game and unlock his potential. It is, however, being suggested back in his homeland that he has completed a high-profile transfer too soon. Fernando Carvallo believes Henriquez would have been better advised to spend more time playing competitive football in Chile before chasing the dream in the Premier League. "Bryan Rabello is playing in Sevilla B, Diego Rubin isn't under consideration at Sporting and Angelo Henriquez won't get many opportunities at Manchester United," he said. "It would have been better for him to continue growing at Universidad de Chile. "It's an advantage to have players in Europe, but the acceleration of their growth process does suffer. "In Chile a lot of them were regulars for their teams, but over there they aren't really under consideration."
